Executive Project Management was engaged by Macquarie University for the "Delivery Stage" of the new University Learning and Research Centre (GFA 17,997 square metres). Our role included Superintendence of the Head Contract and Project Management of the FF&E, Café, Lachlan Macquarie Room, Automated Storage & Retrieval System and Relocation Services deliverables.
The Macquarie University Learning and Research Centre Project is the first University Library in Australia to incorporate an Automated Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS) which can store up to 1.8 Million books in its 15 metre high vault.
To achieve the University's desire for a sustainable future the ASRS was chosen to reduce the Building footprint by over 11,000 square metres (38% reduction) and the significant reduction in embodied energy and materials used in construction and the ongoing lowering of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
The Learning and Research Centre represents a new approach to learning with a 3,000 flexible student study capacity including spaces for students with special needs. The Macquarie University Learning and Research Centre, which is now operational, is truly iconic in nature with is striking façade, communal interactive spaces, media wall, open plan design and water harvesting roof top gardens and lawns.
Executive Project Management acknowledges the truly innovative architectural design by Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp on the Macquarie University Learning and Research Centre Project.
